Join the Owls Head Transportation Museum for a four-part series of events that celebrates the pioneers and innovators of Maine's business community. The first session, Jan. 20, will feature marine-releated business, Bath Ironworks, and Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding, as well as the Stanley Museum, which tells the story of the brothers who invented the Stanley steam car, among other innovations.
New owner for Boothbay Harbor Shipyard

Andy Tyska, president of Rhode Island-based Bristol Marine, has announced the acquisition of Boothbay Harbor Shipyard. Located at the head of Boothbay Harbor, the shipyard joins Bristol Marine’s two other locations of working waterfront, including boat yards in Bristol, Rhode Island, and Somerset, Massachusetts.

Brooklin Boat Yard to build Alerion Class Sloops

Brooklin Boatyard has joined forces with the Sanford Boat Company to be the licensed builder for Alerion Class Sloops. The 26-foot sloop is a cold molded wood reproduction of Nathanael Herreshoff’s personal sailboat, Alerion, that Sanford has been building for 40 years.

Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine celebrated 30 years in print this fall, which happened to coincide with receiving some well-deserved honors from peers in the publishing world. The magazine won two honorable mentions for editorial excellence in Folio’s prestigious national magazine contest for 2017, and six more awards in the International Regional Magazine Association’s 2017 contest.

For the first time, an all-women team of sailors from Maine won first place for all-female finishers in the 2017 J/24 World Championship in Mississauga, Canada. Other Mainers also did well in the event, including a team from the Harraseeket Yacht Club that placed first in the youth division.
