Particulars: On April 5, 2008, a crowd gathered to watch the 42-foot wooden lobsterboat Agamenticus slide down the ways at John's Bay Boat Co. in South Bristol, Maine. Agamenticus is the second boat that Peter Kass has built for lobsterman Eddie Grant. Grant's first, a 41-footer, was built by Kass eight years ago as a strictly working boat. This time around, the details below deck show that Grant and his wife Rosie are planning to cruise in Agamenticus when Grant's not pulling traps out of his home port of York Harbor. One of the last remaining builders of plank-on-frame wooden lobsterboats, Peter Kass built Agamenticus to the design standards of his deluxe lobsterboat. Kass framed Agamenticus with white oak, and planked the boat with 1 1/4" native Maine cedar. The wheelhouse is mahogany and the aft deck is Douglas fir. Click here to read MBH&H publisher, John K. Hanson, Jr.'s account of the launch.
