Boatyard Dogs Greta and Finn
Greta and Finn
Greta
It’s not often that we see a dog in this column with as much official standing as Greta. This 3-year-old German shorthaired pointer is trained and certified in narcotics detection, tracking, and evidence recovery, and lives and works with her handler, Alan Twombley of the Falmouth Police Department. From May to October, she assists Twombley in the Marine Unit on the department’s 27' Safeboat Defender and the remainder of the year she works street patrol. Greta is frequently the object of finger pointing and picture taking as she looks out the patrol boat window or stands point on the bow of the boat. But have no fear—none of the attention diverts her focus from her job. So behave yourself!
Finn
Winches, check. Spars, check. Dog…hey wait a second, does this boat come with a dog? Finn, a hound mix who belongs to Wendy Goodwin at Cape Cod Shipbuilding, goes to work with her each and every day and helps get the boats ready for customers. He is shown here on the deck of one of Cape Cod’s Shields One-Designs, but he does NOT come with the boat. That said, he might be open to persuasion. Rumor has it that Finn will do almost anything for special dog treats.
