Hinckley Yachts has a new flagship planned for its Picnic Boat line, which includes four models ranging from 37 to 45 feet.
The Picnic Boat 45 will be the second in the line range that features a forward seating area, a concept that made its debut on the recently introduced Picnic Boat 39.
In announcing the new boat, Hinckley describes it as “the social flagship of the line,” with multiple areas for the crew to congregate or find a peaceful retreat. In addition to the forward cockpit, there is an entertaining area aft, where the cockpit is available in a few different configurations for purposes such as dining, hosting guests or lounging, complete with a bar and forward-facing seating. Down below, accommodations include two cabins, a head, and lots of storage.
The Picnic 45 will be powered by twin Volvo Penta D11 725-hp diesel engines, paired with Hamilton HTX30 water jets and Hinckley’s JetStick control system. Top speed is estimated to be in the 40-knot range, with a cruising speed of 34 knots. The hull was designed by Michael Peters Yacht Design.
One of the more interesting aspects of the new design is its swim platform. At the dock, the platform can be transformed into a set of steps up to make stern boarding easier. Or, the steps can be deployed downward into the water for swimming when anchored.

“The Picnic Boat has never been just a yacht; it represents a distinctly Hinckley way of being on the water,” said Gavin McClintock, Hinckley’s CEO, in a release. “For decades, it has defined a style of boating centered on ease, elegance, and time shared with friends and family. With the Picnic Boat 45, we’ve evolved that icon into our most social design yet, expanding the spaces where people gather while preserving the effortless handling and timeless lines that make a Hinckley unmistakable.”
Hinckley, with corporate offices in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, builds all of its boats at its production facility in Trenton, Maine. You can find details about the new model at the company’s website.
