Apollo is a boat dog who loves to be on the water but prefers to stay dry! The 3-year-old pitbull hasn’t always lived the bass-fishing life, though. He was found in Georgia with his four brothers, starving and alone at 3 weeks old. But, a few months later, he found his forever home and people, Kamron Alexander and Freyja Victory, who volunteered with South Portland-based Pittie Posse Rescue & Sanctuary, which ferried Apollo to Maine. These days, the pup enjoys sunbathing on the deck of their 1995 Bass Tracker Pro17, watching water dogs swim, and scanning for fish while Alexander casts a line in Limerick’s Lake Arrowhead. When Apollo is not doing sonar for Alexander—an avid Arrowhead fisherman since the Limerick couple resides minutes from the lake—he stays busy on land. His favorite hike is Rumford’s Whitecap Mountain, while beach days are for Bayview in Biddeford. Apollo is curious and eager to learn, so Victory works on enrichment with treat puzzles and tricks (on the “middle” command, Apollo nestles in to a sit between her legs). Kick-back time is spent on the couch with canine siblings Daphne and Loki, watching dogs and sports on television. Victory can attest that like most pitties, Apollo is an ace snuggler who thinks being 55 pounds makes him a lap dog.
