The Maine I Love - Lisa Tyson Ennis

Lisa Tyson Ennis lives on the remote, rocky coast in Lubec, Maine. Her recent work has focused on the decline of the traditional fishery: haunting images of herring weirs, smokehouses, and abandoned villages in Newfoundland. She works with historical processes—large- and medium-format cameras, black-and-white film, and handmade toners. She has also begun to delve deeper into historic photo alchemy with tintype work. Always searching for that fleeting unison of light and landscape that is both representational and symbolic, Ennis hand-prints each image and paints it with light in the darkroom. Ennis’s work appears in a number of collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Portland Museum of Art, and has been included in more than 75 solo and group exhibitions since 2002. During the summer of 2015, her work will be exhibited at Tides Institute & Museum of Art in Eastport, Harlow Gallery in Hallowell, and Courthouse Gallery Fine Art in Ellsworth.
