Scupper and Perry - Issue 129

Anyone who knows the schooner Appledore knows Scupper, left, and her friend, Perry. The labdradoodles crew on the 60-foot, Camden-based schooner, which is owned by Robin McIntosh and Rick Bates. Scupper has been sailing on Appledore since she was a puppy. Perry was a rescue from an Ohio puppy mill this past spring. They both love to pose for photographers. Once when Gov. Paul LePage visited Camden Harbor, he walked down the dock past Scupper, who was posing for him on deck. When LePage did not stop (is he a cat person?), Scupper barked sharply to get his attention. The governor came back to pay his proper respects and the resulting photo made the front page of the local newspaper. Any day now, Scupper might run for office. We’d like to see your Boatyard Dog.
