“This image was made after visiting Adam Campbell of North Haven Oyster Co. one late afternoon while he inspected the farm at low tide. I followed him around in the muck wearing tennis shoes and holding my Mamiya RB67 medium format film camera. Adam is almost always working and I am really attracted to those moments where people are in the midst of what they love to do. A story is told in that split second, that fleeting moment when something is happening, someone is doing something, or even just the framing is perfect from where I’m standing. I often miss the shot because these moments are so fleeting. That is why I often shoot with film instead of a digital camera. It has given me a more intimate relationship with the subject, and also a sense of urgency. Part of the excitement happens in the darkroom when I pull the film out of the processing tank and see if I succeeded.” William Traveskis lives on North Haven with his wife, Courtney Naliboff, and their young daughter.
