Paying a visit by boat to the scenic working harbor at Port Clyde just got a little easier, thanks to a collaboration between Colby College and Lyman-Morse. The midcoast Maine boat builder will relaunch a managed mooring field to service transient boats, and the company will also provide fuel, restrooms and showers, and WiFi ashore.
According to a press release, mooring reservations—both short-term and seasonal—will be available through the Dockwa app and at dockwa.com.
“Lyman-Morse is excited to bring our waterfront expertise & management to Colby’s investment in the Port Clyde community,” said Eric Beckman, service operations manager at Lyman-Morse. The company has extensive boatbuilding facilities in Thomaston and marina facilities in Camden.
Colby College is building a major presence in Port Clyde with its new Center for Resilience and Economic Impact. The school has purchased several downtown properties, including the site of the former general store that was destroyed in a fire. It also has facilities on nearby Allen and Benner islands, which use Port Clyde as their launch point.
“Our goal is to be a good neighbor and a long-term partner to the people of Port Clyde. Everything we're doing starts with that commitment,” said Paul Ureneck, Assistant Vice President of Real Estate for Colby College.
According to the release, Colby will construct a new building on the former general store site to house a street-level restaurant, with offices and a community center above. The Barn and Squid Ink Coffee will continue to operate, and the Seaside Inn will remain a place for people to stay, work, and be part of village life.
